Go Out and Stand in the Presence of the LORD
Have The Good Sense To Be Moved
I was reading in 1 Kings 19 about the depression Elijah was going through. God was dealing with Elijah in a way current psychologist could never understand. I will write about that in another devotion. What I want to address today is the events that happened outside the cave.
*1 Kings 19: 9 – 13, 9 There he went into a cave and spent the night. And the word of the Lord came to him: “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
10 He replied, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.”
11 The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”
Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.
Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
The thing that stood out so strongly to me was when the LORD was about to pass by. Read verse 11-13. The bible records there was a “great and powerful wind”. Then there was an earthquake. And last there was a fire. The LORD was not in these things so why did they happen. What I am about to share is something the LORD revealed to me years ago.
When the earth itself knew the LORD, the Creator, was about to pass by it was moved. The wind rushed out ahead screaming “The Creator is Coming”. The earth shook with the excitement “The Creator is Coming”. Even the molecules got so excited and moved so quickly they appeared as fire “The Creator is Coming.
I want to connect this with a verse in the New Testament.
*Luke 19: 37 – 40, 37 When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:
38 “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!”[b]
“Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”
39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!”
40 “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”
What God was trying to tell me about this was; If the small elemental things of this world have the good sense to be moved when the LORD, the Creator passes by, how much more should we the creatures created in his image be moved.
The Creator is Coming!!!!
