When Trouble comes and won’t go away
When troubles come and won’t go away
It was a hard time for me. It seemed like everything was going wrong at work and at home. At work something had taken a bad turn and at first glance it seemed that I was at fault. My bosses and I could not find any peaceful ground and I felt my job was in jeopardy. All my friends at work started to distance themselves from me and I became isolated. At home we had some unexpected repairs and bills were due. They say money is the number one cause of fights in the home and mine is no exception. I really couldn’t do anything right it seemed.
We have all been here. Troubles come and start to build on each other. The weight of the stress becomes too much to bare. We pray to God for help claiming promises we have read in the bible, but nothing changes. It seems that our prayers get about as high as the ceiling only to fall back down on us but now they seem heavier than before. We get up from our knees and face another day already tired because of the stress. There is no more helpless feeling in the world.
I was reading in Exodus 3 where God was talking to Moses from the burning bush. I found some comfort here. To set the stage the Israelites had be enslaved for hundreds of years. They had cried out to God for some relief but just like me it seemed that God could not hear their prayers. In Exodus 3:7-8a God talks to Moses (I’m going to paraphrase this) 7 and the LORD said: “I have seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their masters, for I personally know their sorrows. 8 So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good land, to a land flowing with milk and honey,.
I don’t know what your struggle is today. Maybe you lost your job, or spouse. You walked out to start your car, but it refused to start and last time you checked there was no money in your account to fix a car. You may have lost a loved one that was your personal confidant, and you just don’t know how you will go on without them to lean on. You have prayed but like the Israelites you don’t see an answer coming or any relief in sight. Look again at Exodus 3:7-8a and read it with emphasis on the highlighted portion.
3:7-8a (my paraphrase) 7 and the LORD said: “I have seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and I have heard their cry because of their masters, for I personally know their sorrows. 8 So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good land, to a land flowing with milk and honey,
I don’t care what your troubles are as you read this, I believe God is telling you:
I have seen
I have heard your cry
I know your sorrow
So, I have come
God has seen your troubles and has heard your cry. God knows your sorrow and He will come. Trust God.
